The best things to do in the Azores are guided tours into the volcanic landscape. On São Miguel you can book 4x4 jeep tours, walking tours, and whale watching, with farm and honey tastings for the island's food side, all run by verified local operators.

4x4 jeep tours in São Miguel

Jeep tours are the most popular way to see the island, running to the Sete Cidades crater lakes, Lagoa do Fogo, and the Nordeste coast, usually with lunch and hotel pickup included. Full-day trips cover more ground; half-days focus on one area.

Walking tours and hikes

On foot, guided walking tours cover Ponta Delgada's old town and the Vista do Rei ridge above Sete Cidades, and an accessible Joelette tour opens Sete Cidades to travelers with reduced mobility.

Whale watching and Terceira

Over on Terceira, a whale watching trip pairs the boat with an island jeep safari, and a traditional farm tour comes with lunch. The Azores are one of the world's top whale watching regions, with resident sperm whales year-round.

When is the best time to visit the Azores?

The Azores are a year-round destination. Whale watching is best from April to October, when migrating species pass through; jeep and walking tours run all year, though the weather changes fast, so guides adjust the route to the day.
